Another stairwell doll and painting

More dolls...the theme continues...

Yesterday Angel asked me how I display the dolls. That's a good question. Since we live in a very small home with limited display capacity, some have become part of our decor. The doll above sits on one of my paintings in a stair well. You can read more about the painting and fish here. The painting has to be 20 years old and the doll at least a decade old. Others are in a cabinet and some reside in built-in bookshelves with glass doors. I move them around quite often and some are stored in boxes, as well. Some get sold, some are given away. The dolls are always in a state of flux.

Thank you for the lovely comments about the bird's nest that Adele, our grand-daughter made. She is following a tradition within our family of being arty. Her mother, her aunt, and most of the women on my side of the family were/are writers, painters, needle workers and accomplished seamstresses who made their own clothes and mine, too. Her mother is a successful jewelry designer and Adele is exposed to some wonderful work and lots of art, too.

It's nearly the weekend. The weather is just plain UGLY and awful here as the effects of a hurricane have turned New England into a swamp of humidity. Not sure what to plan for the weekend. If you are in the path of the storm, I hope all will be well with you and yours.

Happy weekend and

enjoy the day!

Dollz....

My doll club met last Monday and the program was "dolls twelve inches and under." Here is just a small portion of the dolls that members brought to share. There were many, many more tables.

Like any collectors, doll collectors know a lot about history. The older dolls require identification. Studying the history and the fabrication of the dolls is part of the joy of collecting. I selected a smattering of the many dolls we were able to see--everything from vinyl to wood to metal to bisque and china. Our club has grown to 27 members and is a diverse group of collectors.

What do you collect? I mean besides dust which is what I have been collecting a lot of lately.

The weekend is rolling around again. This week went by very quickly for me. We have some interesting plans so maybe I will have something different to show here next week. (I will try not to show Beltie cows but I cannot promise anything!)

Enjoy your day...and enjoy your weekend. Travel safely!

Dolls, 8 tall inches and under....

Made by me

Made by others

My doll club meets Monday and our program is "Dolls 8 inches tall and under." Our custom is to bring in dolls related to the program to display.

A large portion of my collection is this size. I pulled out a bunch to take to doll club and decided to photograph them while they are out of the cabinets. This represents less than one third of the small dolls that I have under 8 inches but I would have to take apart a lot of displays to get to them all.

The dolls are from different eras and different mediums: wood, china, paper clay, cloth. The smallest doll is 2 inches tall and her blue dress is next to her. She is not the smallest doll I have or made but she is the easiest of them to photograph!

I actually have many Hitty dolls in my collection but only included two I made, one in wood and one in cloth. Hitty is exactly 6.5 inches tall so she qualifies. The smallest dolls in my collection are really tiny, but I think I will not bring them to doll club as they are easily lost. (I have lost some of them here a few times.)

Many collectors in my doll club collect Betsy McCall, small antique bisques, Ginny, Hitty and other tiny dolls. Hopefully, I will have some photos to share next week.

Now, I must get mine ready to travel.

It is the weekend again. I do hope you enjoy yours.
