A happy New Year, 2014!

A happy New Year!
Grant that I
May bring no tear to any eye
When this New Year in time shall end
Let it be said I've played the friend,
Have lived and loved and labored here,
And made of it a happy year.

Snowy...but pretty!

The snow is still with us for the new year.

Outside a restaurant at the shore...

 Looking out towards
Long Island Sound...

The lighthouse in New London, CT

The modern white house

near it is a private residence.

Harkness Memorial in the winter...
once a summer mansion residence.

a cold marsh but a lovely view...

The holidays seem far away.

The new year dawns and

there is always new hope

for a new year.

For that we can be thankful.

Hope your new new year is happy!

And as always,

whatever the weather,

season, or reason,

enjoy the day!

Ring in the snow...

It wasn't a white Christmas...but it will be a white New Year.  We have lots and lots of snow on the ground and now it feels like winter.

New Year's Eve is right around the corner... as well as New Year's Day.  To me, they are only calender markers because I think spring really starts the new year when winter ends.

However, many will celebrate
good-bye to the old year...

and hello to the the new!

Hope you have a safe holiday
and welcome the new calender year
as a fresh beginning!

Happy New Year,

and

as always,

enjoy the day!

Here I am!

Have you been wondering where I have been? For at least five years I have blogged here (or elsewhere) three times a week...faithfully. Not so this week.

I decided to sort
through every
piece of paper and art supply
at my disposal.
So, what happened?

I created a worse mess
than I had before!

I would be lying if I said I wasn't having fun. I have enjoyed sorting and rediscovery and the inspiration from all the colors and patterns.

In between sorting stuff, we ran up to Vermont. At an art display I saw this piece of furniture I love. Hopefully, Mr. DollZandThingZ will finish some projects soon and make me a similar item. Hint, hint.

In one of my favorite antique stores, I saw this donkey and thought, "as a child I would have loved this!"

My friend April commented. "as a child? You wanted now and I am surprised it didn't come home with you!"

She knows me well! There was a moment of temptation...

So, back to work here. Between art, sewing and needle felting supplies...and a small home... there is much to do.

Hope you had a marvelous new year's eve and will have a fabulous 2011!

As always,

enjoy the day!

Butterflies in December in the snow...

Yesterday we took another trip to
Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory.

Snow outside...
tropical weather inside.

Butterflies at a feeder...

There are butterflies
flying everywhere.

This atlas moth is
twelve inches across.

The koi pond
is beautiful!

Tiny, tiny button quail
scurry across the floor.

There are lizards galore..
all very friendly.

It's New Year's Eve...

stay safe, stay happy...

enjoy the day!

(Thank you Mr. DollZandThingZ

for excellent photos.)

Two buildings....

Took these photos yesterday in the area of NY around Amenia. One building was pristine and huge against the snowy hill. The other has seen better times. The snow was just enough to be pretty.

This study in contrast seems to be symbolic of our times.

On another note, does Christmas seem really distant to you? It seems like so long ago to me. Have you purged your home of decorations yet? How about that tree? Do you celebrate Kwanzaa? Three King's Day? Today in New England there are Boar's Head festivities in many churches.

Enjoy your day! This holiday weekend is the last one for a long time!
