It was was a very long day.  I know my feet are very tired.  We walked from 9 in the morning until 5  at night only stopping for lunch.  Oh, yes!  How could I forget Macy's? Those rotating ceiling ornaments are so much fun!  Hope you enjoyed our shopping event..and the Indian food we had for lunch. (Let's not talk about that pastry at Starbucks!)

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Where in the world is the real Winnie the Pooh?

Winnie the Pooh resides with his friends on Fifth Avenue at the New York City Public Library.  I dropped in to see him this past weekend and my heart went pitter-patter.

The children's literature display is directly  through the front door!  It is free but donations are always accepted.

We are talking the REAL and original Winnie the Pooh who inspired the books by A.A. Milne and the magnificent illustrations by E. H.  Shepard.  I was raised on this book and do not really enjoy or like the Disney illustrations... although it is wonderful that Disney introduced the characters and story to other generations.

Who is your favorite character?  I have always loved Eeyore best and Piglet almost as much as Eeyore.  Seeing them in person is really quite wonderful.

NYC was a nice diversion in this very cold winter.  It's not as cold here as the Midwest but it has been really cold and snowy.  We are supposed to have a big storm here this week.  

Are you ready for Valentine's day?  I am!  Because it marks the halfway point through winter! And also because I love all the symbols and colors of the day!  But more on that later...another post coming up soon!

A day in the City...

A day in the City (New York City) is always fun around the holidays.  Here are some photos from yesterday in Manhattan.  It's a mix from Bryant Park, Fifth Ave., Rockefeller Center and some pretty windows.  (My favorite windows every year are at the Anthropologie in Rockefeller Center.)

 

There were many kindnesses and pleasantries all day but a most unexpected one at the end of the day--on a packed peak hour commuter train--there were no seats to be had. After walking around for the better part of nine hours, we were exhausted and not looking forward to standing for 3 hours.  We never take cabs and only sit down to grab a bite of food.

A very nice guy stood up and offered us his seat..and then two others followed suit. It was quite amazing. We later learned they are firefighters from CT. There are still gentleman in a time and age where this seldom happens. Kudos to men who are gentlemen in this day and age! It was lovely gesture and we were so thankful!

It was tough to go the gym this morning...feeling a tad tired. The weekend is here but I feel like I had my weekend already!

Wrapping it all up...

Time to wrap up my NYC Christmas experience!  A week later I am still thinking about NYC during the holidays...a unique experience.

Times Square might be "improved"

but I think it is mundane

compared to what it once was...

 

My only purchases

were from Tinsel Trading

and the mid-town 

Anthropolgie.

Big box stores abound...

the kind around here...

so my creative shopping was limited.

(So was my budget!)

The next day, back in CT, 

my own wares 

were up for sale

at a lovely show.

Looking around NYC is always fun and always inspiring.  But, it is not the shopping place I once loved.  Mid-town is really getting to be middle-of-the-road.  I am a rare old bird...I liked it better decades ago...I miss the tiny boutiques, the exciting garment district and my old haunts.

Nevertheless, I still love going and I still love the city and am most grateful for the ability to go a few times a year...

NYC continued...

For the most part, Christmas windows were subdued this year.  When there was color, it was done with lighting such as this window at Lord and Taylor.

seemed to be a combination 

of shabby chic and steampunk.
