Must see! Off to Oz!!!

The plot is thickening...Dorothy is captured...the Woolies have turned into Oz characters!

The finale of the great OZ Event ends tomorrow! Will you be entering our giveaway???

Meanwhile, it is going to be 70*F today for the first time since last fall. The weather will be back in the 40's tomorrow but today will be pure bliss!

Our furnace will be turned off as we open windows and "change the air" as we say in New England.
Tonight it is plunging to 34* so those windows won't be open for long!

Any plans for today? Any plans for the weekend?

As always,

enjoy the day...

and happy weekend

Summer returns...

The crisp autumn weather has had me in the mood to needle felt. Somehow, working with wool has no appeal to me today.

Until hurricane season is over, I guess we can expect tropical weather from time to time with high humidity and temperatures as the warm air pushes north. It is an uncomfortably humid 70 plus degrees here this morning after having the furnace on for a week because it was so cold. We have already taken the a/c out of the windows and winterized the house...go figure.

On another note, the murder mystery is solved over at Martha and Jane! Who dunnit? Any guesses?

Until next time,

enjoy the day!

It's summer again!

"One of the brightest gems in the New England weather is the dazzling uncertainty of it."---Mark Twain, speech to New England Society, Dec. 1876.

A tropical storm is roaring up the East Coast delivering weather equal to the worst August dog days. The humidity is relentless. We were going to take the air conditioners out and prepare for winter and now we are glad we didn't. As my late grandmother would say, "it's thick today."

This pair of mourning doves is always hanging about the deck and apparently oblivious to the heat and humidity. They like to sleep in the sun and are often on the hot roof top as well.

Tomorrow night it will plunge into the 40's and possibly into the 30's Sunday night. Such is New England weather: shorts and sandals today...flannel nightgown tomorrow night!

I
s it just me or has the week flown by? What plans do you have? We will go to soccer games and perhaps become leaf-peepers over the weekend, too.

Have a happy weekend and as always,

enjoy the day!

P.S. If you haven;t checked out Martha and Jane...YOU MUST! And their maker has a new episode at Caruthers P. Davenport. You won't want to miss these...we all need some silliness and whimsy in our lives!

End of September...

Can you believe it is nearly the end of September?

The leaves on the ceiling in the White Memorial Museum reflect what it is beginning to look like around these parts. The leaves are turning more every day.

Some of you might remember that Jane went to visit Martha many months ago. Soon it will be time for Jane to come home but right now they are having a most excellent adventure! Don't forget to sign up for the give-away at Martha and Jane. Don't be shy!

I see that the weather has cooled down for some of my friends in the Kentucky, Missouri, and Arkansas... and I am happy for them. They have really had a very long hot spell.

What are your plans today? This is a busy time of the year for me. I have to keep a notebook going: gifts to make, orders to fill, a show to prepare for. Time to go back to what I was gluing!

As always,

enjoy the day!

It's all about the hat...

It is all about the hat...

A few months ago, April (Gramma at Martha and Jane) and I saw these amazing mushroom hats online. It has turned into a running joke. April made this pin for my birthday last month and I just love it. It will reappear from time to time, I am sure.

Meanwhile, the hat has become a symbol of pure whimsy and humor! Even Hitty and Jocko got into the act!

Do you wear hats? We all wear them metaphorically but I actually wear hats in every season. I remember when everybody wore hats daily...men and women alike.

Speaking of Martha and Jane, have you entered our giveaway? You could win this kitty!

Autumn has been interrupted here by another blast of summer. Fortunately, it isn't as hot as it is some places where it remains in the 90's.

Hope you have a lovely weekend... and as always,

enjoy the day!

Time is flying...

By sheer accident, I took this photo. When I was downloading other photos, I paused and thought about this photo.

We are in the eighth month of the year 2010. In just a few months, we will be celebrating the fall and winter holidays. Where does time go?

Just about everybody I know says that time seems to fly...at any age. I have heard some theories on this but the conclusions seem vague.

Speaking of time, you still have time to sign up for the excellent needle felted bird by created April at Martha and Jane. She is the artist who made Hannah the Belted Galloway cow for me...so you know her work is great! The deadline is August 20.

What are your plans for today?
I am going with a friend today for a post birthday jaunt. We celebrate each others' birthday every year this way. We have done this since the 80's!

As always,

enjoy the day!

Martha and Jane...update!

Something happening at Martha and Jane!

Better check and see!

It's summer time....

It's summer time...and the living is...HOT and HUMID. Yesterday we had a day under 90F, so I opened the windows, "changed the air" and gave Hank a bath. Hank weighs a little over 4 pounds and he hates bath time. I seldom take him to a groomer because they have a hard time with him, too. However, he was a very good little guy for his bath.

He is on his favorite chair in this photo. Note that the Teddy bear behind him is bigger than he is. And Hank is smiling...he is ten years old but still like a puppy.

Have you been over to Martha and Jane lately? There is a fairy tale going on complete with wickedly nasty queen!

We did have a some rain and that was great for the dry, crunchy dormant grass. It was not enough but better than none. It makes me glad that we turned our vegetable garden into a xeriscape garden that requires no watering. I cannot imagine how much water would be required to keep vegetables growing in this weather. The cherry tomatoes on the deck in their Earth Boxes are doing fine and require very little water.

Is it Friday? Yes, it is. Happy weekend and always,

enjoy the day!

Fashionistas & Bunnies...

Martha and Jane are getting ready for a spring runway show. You can preview it here. If these two don't make you smile, nothing will!

Meanwhile. the cool spring weather continues here. This is the spring I love when all is emerald and gentle rains bathe the flowers with iridescence!

A few years ago I started collecting and looking at "spun cotton ornaments." They are not always spun and not always cotton as I have come to find out. Sometimes they have wool, felt, composition or paper heads, and all sorts of other traits. The old ones I like are quite expensive. They were from Germany and Russia for the most part. But, the Japanese made them, too. How any have survived is beyond me. They were sold in dime stores and not meant to last forever. My favorite spun cotton artist is Vintage by Crystal. Her work is wonderful and I am lucky enough to own two pieces. I encourage you to visit her web site.

The bunnies below on the left and right are old. The chick is old, too. I bought the chick last year in Brimfield. The medium size bunny is one I just made. I want a whole bunch of bunnies!

Tomorrow I am off to Brimfield again! Should be a lovely, sunny day in the 60's. There are thousands of booths. I can't wait!

As always.

enjoy the day!

A cold and windy Monday...

Last night it dropped into the 30's. The weekend was windy with gusts of 50 m.p.h. We traveled out of state and saw trees down everywhere from the heavy winds and plenty of work crews sawing up trees.

On Saturday we were drenched at a soccer game that went on in a driving rain. We were hoping that the game would be called but it wasn't. Seemed harsh for nine year old kids, but we all survived. It took a whole day to warm up.

Here is a REALLY cute Mother's Day gift from my daughter. I love this! It is commercially made but obviously made by hand. Just my cup of tea...so happy and cute!

A reminder: pop on over to Martha and Jane to see their shopping expedition. Here is just a taste of what went on!

If we are lucky, it will reach 60 degrees today. This is normal spring weather but we have had so many "August dog days" and temps in the high 80's. The weather is really confusing! Salad one day, soup or or stew the next day!

Happy Monday! As always,

enjoy the day!
