We're on the road to nowhere...

Yesterday we found ourselves on the road again. We ended up Nowhere.

But we also ended up on some beautiful New England roads and our eventual destination was a good one.

In the next few days I will share this road trip with you! But for now,

Enjoy the day!

Weekend images...

Someone has a good sense of humor. We spotted a sea creature along the beach.

Upon closer inspection, we saw this Nessie type sea serpent out on the rocks. Too funny!

This wonderful antique store in Putnam, CT, has some of the most unusual and older antiques in it. As we passed through the doors, Edith Piaf's voice rang out through the historic old mill building.

For me, it doesn't get better than that. We explored every room in this wonderful old building and it almost felt like being in a movie.

Now it Monday. Our neighbors leave at 4:10 and 4:30 almost every day. They slam the doors, they run their engines, and Hank, our Yorkie is ready to be up and about. We are so used to their schedule that we awaken when they don't go to work. We get up at 5 anyway, so now we awaken earlier. The houses are a driveway apart in this old neighbor hood and many do not have driveways at all. There is parking on the street on one side only...our side! Such is life.

Happy Monday!

Enjoy the day!

Pretty Doll...

Pretty doll

Here is a pretty doll that arrived in the mail today. She was made by Margaret McInnes. You can see more of Margaret's dolls here. If you look in her profile you can see sites where she shows and sells her dolls.

I love the way she looked when I took her out of the box and thought you might like to see it, too. Margaret also made her matching quilt.

After a few days of oppressive summer humidity, it is back to autumn today and as crisp, cool and beautiful as one could ever hope for. I have a lot going on today with projects and other things, so I cannot linger long here today.

Enjoy the day...

and have a very happy weekend!

Good-bye summer...

There are a few autumn leaves falling from the trees, but it is too early to say good-bye to summer as warm temperatures and high humidity have returned. I had started to put away summer clothes when I realized that it was way to soon.

Every year I try to take a photo of the Hittys at the end of summer. This photo is from a few years ago. I haven't taken the annual photo yet.

How are things in your part of the world? What season it is it? I know that people from across the globe read blogs and I always wonder what is going on in their worlds. Unless a person signs a blog, there is no way to know.

Time to begin my own day here. So, for now...

Enjoy the day!

As graceful as a swan...

We came across this family of swans bathing and preening in the brilliant morning sun. They didn't care that I was standing on the bank. When I spoke to them, they looked up for a moment and then went right back to preening.

About an hour later, we passed them again and they were still in the same spot enjoying the warm and breezy morning.

The weekend went by too quickly. Autumn is kissing the maples. They are tinged with brilliant red and orange. We hear the same refrain everywhere: "wish the weather could be like this year round!"

This glorious weather will extend through the week. The autumn equinox happens here tomorrow and then it will be official that fall has arrived. For today...it is the last day of summer.

Enjoy the day!

Does the painter...

Does the painter...ever paint?

Somebody asked me that recently because "a painter" is a profile name I chose years and years ago and it appears when I sign a blog.

Well, yes, I do paint. I just do not show my paintings online. Because I do so many small mixed medium pieces nowadays, I don't devote the time I once did to large pieces.

Every so often, I do complete a larger painting. This one was from the spring a couple of years ago when I was inspired by a very pink sky behind some birch trees. Spring was on the verge and the earth was tinged in pale green and it looked like it held great promise and joy.

This painter is not painting today though. There is much to do and I need to tackle one of the those UFOs. This week flew by in a blur.

Back to to work here, but first let me say...

Enjoy the day...

and have a very happy weekend!

UFOs...

Now there are five!

Another miniature needle felted sock monkey has joined the happy little crew. For months, it sat faceless waiting patiently for me to finish it. I passed by it several times a day and sighed. Yesterday, after only a few minutes, he was completed and ready to pose with the others.

My autumn goal is to finish the UFOs around here...those Unfinished Objects that nag at my conscience and beg to be done.

That's my plan and I am sticking to it. How about you? Any short term goals? Any Unfinished Objects lurking about? Whatever you accomplish...

enjoy the day!

Hidden gems...

How was your weekend?

Even though summer is on the wane, there are places that are still open for summer fun and we visited both of them this weekend.

This above hot dog stand with taxi is not only fun to look at, but they make a great hot dog and are a summer fixture in Portland, CT. Can you see the relish and onions on the roof?

While reading an article on the "quiet corner" of Connecticut, in Yankee Magazine, I saw an ice cream stand mentioned.

We pass the nearby intersection frequently but never turned the corner. So, we set off to find "Canterbury Cones" and were not disappointed. Wonderful ice cream, nice owners, and a place to sit and relax in farm country. I took this photo just before they opened, but within minutes, the parking lot began to fill. People come from everywhere for the ice cream. Luckily for us, it will be open a few more months.

So, we extended a bit of summer into our weekend... although soccer season has started... and we are busy doing all the things one has to do to get ready for fall.

Monday, Monday....

Enjoy the day!

Cheap and easy...

Here is one of those altered art projects that my friend and I are swapping. This is a wooden skeleton we purchased from a local craft store. A little paint, some fabric scraps and yarn and you can create a witch decoration for very little money.

There are so many cute wooden items available of the holidays. Although meant for kids, they can be decorated by grown up kids, too. Some glow in the dark paint would add a spookier effect to this neon witch.

The weekend it almost here and we might be having some well needed rain. I am still catching up around here and need to get back into some sort of schedule.

There is a very neat giveaway at Soul Aperture. This is a lovely and inspirational blog and the author is a very talented photographer and writer. Check it out. I think that you will be inspired.

Might be a good day to make soup. It's only 52F here this morning with a gusting wind.

Enjoy the day...

and have an enjoyable weekend!

Good Thursday morning...

After roaming around a great deal this summer, it is time to get back to business and get caught up with things.

We have had glorious weather the past few days. Since it has not rained in a month, there is a strong hint of autumn in the air. Plants are turning brown, maples are tinged with orange and red, and the crickets are extremely loud day and night.

There is much to think about in autumn. For me, it is a time of refection and a time to get organized. It's time to put away summer clothes and find the things I put away last spring. It is 49 degrees here this morning, so we know that fall is encroaching.

What are you up to, dear reader? Are you getting organized? Preparing for the next season? There is much to do around here. Whatever you do today in your world...

be happy...

enjoy the day!

Come with me...through the tunnel...

Stone tunnel

to a beautiful country road.....

Beautiful country road

New England stone wall

Turkey brood

There is so much beauty this time of year. I have to be careful because I want to photograph everything to preserve it for a distant winter day.

The long holiday weekend is just about here. What are your plans?

In the old days, Labor Day was a time for the last big picnic of the summer. It was the time to stop wearing white clothes and shoes, to reap summer's harvest, and time to go back to school. Yet, in actuality, there are a few more official weeks of summer left, so I think I will let the beauty unfold as I await fall's splendor ...and maybe even wear white a few more times...drink iced tea...and enjoy a few more ice cream cones!

Enjoy the day...

and have a wonderful weekend!

Cloudy weather...

some days are sunnier than other but late summer days are still very beautiful. I sometimes think that the September and October are the very best months of all with cooler nights, warm days, and ever changing light.

Of course, the transition to autumn will start soon, but summer doesn't officially end until later this month, so I am not rushing it.

Enjoy whatever season you are in..

and enjoy the day!
