Out and about....

Autumn is waning. Soon all the trees will be naked and winter's stark beauty will change the landscape.

Yesterday we were on the road over to Rhode Island and returned by the CT shore where there is still some color. It was warm and drizzly day (almost 60F!).

We always take the road less traveled and this dirt road is one we love in every season.

It passes by a much photographed swamp that was one of my husband's childhood haunts.

When you leave the dirt road, this amazing barn comes into view.

Years ago, I sketched it in the winter.

We were wishing we had time to wander through the opening of this wall nearby.

The stone walls of New England always amaze me. They are everywhere. We have an expression that rocks grow
in New England. Anybody who gardens in New England can expect a new crop every spring! After the spring thaw, you see they have emerged to the surface. One can only imagine how difficult it was to clear the woods and make fields...and walls.

Hope you enjoyed this little travelogue. Just a wonderful ride on a pretty fall day.

Happy weekend!

Enjoy the day!

I always think of Robert Frost's poems when I see your New England countryside. I love his work. We grow rocks here too (a real pain when your digging the garden!)

So lovely..."The road goes ever on and on down from the door where it began and far ahead the road has gone and I must follow if I can..." (Bilbo Baggins) What a beautiful trip you took. The first time I saw rock walls was Inishmoor- one of the Aran Islands off the coast of Ireland- the entire Island is COVERED with them!!! Like a huge maze! It was incredible!

I can just see my self wandering up to that break in the wall...laying down a blanket and reading a book in the sun.....was it warm enough?

Thank-you for taking us along with you on your New England ramble. I imagine the peace of it soaks into your soul.

Oh boy, you have a bit of snow! That's a bit more like it, compared to the odd weather you had last year.

I love your sketch of the old building. It is just the sort of thing that I have a fondness for.

On one of our drives, my mister and I came across an old stone wall, that fortunately is considered a treasure in the little town it's in, and thus, as been maintained. We don't have many things like that in our part of the world. This wall was built as part of an old fort and surrounds a big grassy area. There are a few stone buildings in the town too. I love those.

All my best,

Lena
