For the love of animals...

Over the years, I have had many random thoughts about animals in captivity.

When I was growing up, parrot and alligator "farms"  abounded in South Florida.  I loved flamingos, monkeys, and zebras, especially.  I also loved the fauna outdoors including the chameleons and lizards.  An occasional alligator would appear in a canal or pond... and it was pretty common to see exotic birds who had escaped their cages and were enjoying the sub-tropical climate.

When I lived in NYC, I frequented the zoo in Central Park hundreds of times.  In those days, it was still the old fashioned type of zoo with small enclosures.  I felt sort of sad for the animals but the animals seemed happy to be where they were.  The seals were such hams...applauding the audience who applauded them! The Bronx Zoo also held a big fascination for me.

Since those days I have been to many more zoos and most zoos are upgraded and more natural environments for the animals. From polar bears to penguins to a butterfly conservatory...I am still just attracted to animals as ever.

To all those dear animals that I was lucky enough to see...in all sorts of environments...I give you thanks for all the joy I have been given by peeking into your lives...and for instilling a life-long love of animals.

Here are a few more from the
