On Monday we headed to Massachusetts to do some shopping. It had snowed up there and looked like winter finally arrived. This scene caught my eye. It is a typical farm out on a country road.
Life continues as usual for farm animals. There is something soothing about cows grazing in a field and oblivious to the world around them.
Some people find winter depressing or dark. I am not one of those. I find the silhouettes of trees and hills against the sky as beautiful in winter as any other season.
Yesterday, a friend and I went holiday shopping at a mall here in CT. We expected the stores to be busy but they weren't. Most stores had not decorated for the holidays. Neither of us bought any gifts.
We had a great time renewing our friendship over mocha peppermint lattes. We have been holiday shopping since the 80's when we deemed the season "merry madness." We are both thinking that this may be a very different kind of holiday season for people this year.
It is snowing here right now. There are several inches on the ground. It's supposed to turn into a huge rain storm just in time for my husband's commute. For the moment, the world is quiet and white. It is beautiful outside my window... a good day to start writing out holiday cards as Christmas and Hanukkah approach.

i'm wishing for snow again this year. we had a very very light dusting the other night, but it was gone within in a few hours...i would be happy if it snowed 2 feet, except now when i'm on call!!! 'cause everybody will be calling in right and left. sigh...
It is so wonderful you have a friend that you have been shopping with since the 80s. That would be my sister for me. There is nothing more comforting than a cup of coffee with history between two women.
I haven't been shopping, but I have seen online that many can't shop and others are being respectful of those who may not be able to buy as much this year. The news may report the bad, but I see good and compassionate people all of the time.
