Popping in for a moment between the holidays....
Have you ever seen wave clouds? They are caused by the Kelvin–Helmholtz instability.
I had seen photos of these clouds but never saw them in the sky. They are relatively rare but amazing to watch. Some people call them "surfer clouds" and they do look like waves just rolling along.
When I spotted them in Saybrook, CT, I asked my husband to pull over so I could take a photo. If I had seen them sooner, perhaps they might have been curled a bit tighter. It was only a matter of moments before they spread out and dissipated.
This has been a year for unusual clouds and rainbows. I have never seen so many unusual natural events in the sky as in the past few months. (Remember my upside down rainbow smiling in the sky?
Always remember to watch the sky...you never know what you will find. Around here it is frequently hot air balloons and various hawks...occasional advertising blimps...and sometimes unusual clouds and rainbows!
As always,
enjoy the day!

The cloud formations are amazing. I've never seen anything like that. I am a sky watcher too.
