Arty thingz..

If you read this blog regularly, you know that my friend and I swap art...nearly every week. In the fall, she had surgery that has left her with a long recovery due to nerve pain and a dropped foot.

Despite the amount of pain she has been suffering, she was still able to create these beautiful things for me. The little fold out book is Red Riding Hood and is filled with tiny messages that can be pulled out to read.

The tall gal is on wood and the art doll (on the left) with her gorgeous fabrics and colors is on a pedestal. The little blocks of wood are covered with words, painting, and many images. I included another block that she did for Christmas a few years ago, too. I keep them stacked together,

For the first time, since early November, she was able to drive again and we headed out to the local craft chain store. We stopped for our coffee and toast along the way. We had a great time!

So, there are lot of things to contemplate here: patience, endurance, discipline, friendship, creativity and a desire...a desire to create no matter how difficult it has been due to pain. Thank you Carol, I treasure this art!

On another note, snow flurries turned to inches of snow yesterday. Now we are in a serious cold spell with a wind chill values expected to be below zero for a few days. When my husband left in the dark this morning, the locks on his car were frozen. Such is New England.

Happy weekend...

enjoy the day!

Oh Carol- your art dolls and books are just beautiful! So enchanting! I would love to see each one up closer. I read the article in Cloth, Paper, Scissors last night and love how you two gals were inspired..I love Helen's doll as well! I would really like to see the Little Red Riding Hood book up close...one of my favorite Fairy Tales. Creating must have been good therapy for you because you have made wonderful treasures!

Carol's work is just amazing, too. The detail is so creative, and painstaking. You are truly blessed to have each other as friends.

It is -10 and we are off for a day of provision shopping, and one little thing for the bath redo. However, the sun is shining and that trumps cold any day!

Thanks for the wonderful comments you left at my bloggie! I had no idea anyone was "keeping check" on me for that long... I have lots of new stuff in the works, including paintings in acrylics and mixed media, SO MUCH FUN i have found since letting my imagination free...

What a brave and talented friend you have Helen, she puts me to shame. It's amazing what folk will endure for the sake of art. May her recovery continue apace. I love your New England winter scenes. You get real picture postcard snow every year without fail which we rarely do (some years we get some whilst other years we get none at all).

I understand so much about your friend's need to create every day. I feel that same feeling, and at least part of most of my days include some creativity. I rarely seem to finish things though. I need to learn, I think, that it is ok when things aren't perfect. Sometimes, I think that I have, and that the process of creativity is enough, but I know, that it really isn't, for me.

Your friend, and you Helen, are both to be admired. For so many things.
