Thoughts on celebrating...

O, Christmas Tree!

Christmas is a few days away. The Winter Solstice has passed. Yesterday I noticed it was still light out the window as I was cooking dinner. From now on it will be a little lighter in the afternoon every day.

At the same time, it is now truly winter and it feels it. It is three degrees here this morning. We usually don't see temps like this until much later.

I think I cannot eat another Christmas cookie at this point! I didn't bake any but we have been recipients of delightful goodies this year.

Our gifts are wrapped and we are ready. We will be elsewhere on Christmas visiting family. I have thoroughly enjoyed this season in a most peaceful, quiet way. As I have discovered, celebrating the holidays varies over the years.

I think there are many stages one goes through in life concerning Christmas. It can disappoint and it can delight. It can even do both at once. It can be bittersweet for those of us who miss loved ones who are longer with us. It can be so utterly joyful when a new baby's eyes light up before a sparkling tree. Watching children open presents can transport us back to when we were children ourselves.

Christmas spirit lies within our hearts. It is many things to many people. It can be a very religious experience-- or not. It can be commercial-- or not. It can be frenzied or peaceful--or not. We all have the ability to make it special.. and we all have our own family traditions.

I wish you and yours a special holiday however you celebrate the day. As always,

enjoy the day...

and Merry Christmas!
