Out and about...

Just before the blizzard we were out and about in CT. This is the entry way to Mystic Seaport. The tree on the bow of the tugboat is the perfect touch. Around here, you will see trees on boats, trees on buildings being constructed, and trees on large equipment like cranes. Love it!

Here is a ferry landing with an historic past. Unfortunately the ferries may stop running due to lack of money in the state. Looking over at Gillette Castle on a cold winter day is a wonderful sight. We took the grands across the river last summer on this ferry and are glad we did. Of course, it is closed now as the CT River is frozen during the winter. It is a powerful reminder of times gone by.

The famous actor William Gillette built this home on the river and I have been going here since I was a very young child. Gillette became rich and famous playing Sherlock Holmes on stage. I never tire of visiting the castle. At four years old, I imagined I was a princess living in the castle and that feeling comes back whenever I visit.

Since we took these photos we have had a foot or more of snow. However, the temperatures are warming up and there is a chance of rain so possibly a lot of it will disappear.

Have you been by Martha and Jane? There is a thoughtful thank you note there!

Are you recuperating from the Christmas holiday? Happy Kwanzaa to my friends who are celebrating this week.

Until next time, as always,

enjoy the day!

Modes of transportation...

This past weekend we encountered all of these modes of transportation on the same day. We took a ferry across the CT River, rode the Essex steam train, and dined near a yellow cab with a hot dog trailer!

As you can see, it was quite humid. We are having August in June and it's quite uncomfortable. But the weather didn't stop us from enjoying the day.

Here it is: Friday again...HUMID, HOT and HAZY once again.

One thing I didn't mention is that I have poison ivy rash from yard work on Monday. Yes..it feels like late summer except summer doesn't start for a few more weeks...

As always,

enjoy the day

and happy weekend!

Postcards from the weekend

Still like a statue

It was a lovely weekend and we have many happy memories. Here are some from Gillette Castle. Aside from the abundant wildlife near the pond, a great blue heron flew over when we were taking photos. We took the grands and they both love nature so it was a good day.

More photos to follw in the days to come...for now, back to the work week. Hope you had a lovely weekend. As always,

enjoy the day!

Gillette Castle and the CT River.....a fine end to a fine vacation....perfect weather! Many decades ago I visited this castle and sat on what I thought was a throne. It was actually an ornately carved chair. I imagined I would grow up and be a princess and live happily ever after roaming this castle's grounds.

Well, I don't live there, but it is a marvelous state park and the interior is fabulous. Go here and look around. Over the years my friends, family and visitors have trekked around falling in love with this special place a special actor called home, on a cliff, by the CT River. I love showing them around.

Tomorrow it is back to the every day grind. We had such grandiose ideas about home improvements and things to be accomplished, but the open road called us away instead. We saw so much beauty, nature, and architecture! We dined in some wonderful places. I think our winter will be filled with warm memories of late summer days in New England.

Enjoy your day!
